RoClean™ L211 is a high-performance, high-pH liquid buffer cleaner specifically designed to remove colloidal materials, clay, organics and biological sludge from moderately fouled reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes. This cleaner is successfully used in systems operating on seawater, brackish surface water and ground water, as well as in cases where it is desirable to use a liquid cleaner. RoClean L211 is commonly used for routine maintenance and is NSF certified for safety and effectiveness.

The RoClean L211 cleaning procedure is simple and effective. Below is a brief description of the procedure:

  1. Fill the treatment tank to the desired volume with reverse osmosis permeate or deionized water. Heat the solution to the maximum allowable temperature recommended by the membrane manufacturer, as this will greatly increase the cleaning efficiency.
  2. Add enough RoClean L211 to make a 2% solution by weight for moderate to heavy soiling, or a 1% solution by weight for light soiling. Recirculate the solution through the cleaning tank to ensure proper mixing.
  3. Pass the cleaning solution through each stage of the reverse osmosis system, in turn, for at least 60 minutes at the flow rate recommended by the membrane manufacturer. If this rate is unknown, use the following guidelines: - 4-inch reverse osmosis membrane: 2.4 m³/h (10 gpm) - 8-inch reverse osmosis membrane: 9 m³/h (40 gpm)
  4. At the beginning of the cleaning process, allow 15% of the initial cleaning solution to flow down the drain. If the tank volume is not enough, add 15% 1% or 2% cleaning solution. If the membranes are heavily fouled and the cleaner has extremely high color or suspended solids, prepare a new batch of chemical. Heavily soiled items can also be helped by a soaking period.
  5. Monitor the pH of the solution during the cleaning process. If the pH remains in the desired range and the solution is not cloudy, it can be used for purification in subsequent stages. If the pH drops, add more cleaner or make a new batch and repeat the process.
  6. After cleaning is complete, rinse the membranes by passing the reverse osmosis permeate through each vessel under pressure. After that, the system can be returned to operation. Chemical and physical properties
